The Language of Music Ensemble
Members of the Language of Music Ensemble:
Daniel Woo, Violinist and Assistant Director
Daniel Woo is a rising senior from Scarsdale, New York, attending Edgemont Jr/Sr High School. He started playing the violin at 7 years old and since then has performed many times individually and with an ensemble. He also has attended Manhattan School of Music for two years on Saturdays, where he has his private lesson, orchestra, and theory and ear training classes. He has been learning under the amazing teacher Christina Khimm-Rosand, and attended her summer camp, Summit Music Festival, where he had a great time developing his violin skill. In his free time, Daniel likes to play sports such as basketball, soccer, and tennis, which he plays on his school team, spend time with friends, and watch movies.
Isaac Jin, Violinist
Violinist Isaac Jin was born in New York City, and after moving to New Jersey with his parents, he found his passion for the violin at age eleven. It was a family friend and former violinist who recognized Isaac’s talent and suggested that he study with a professional. Soon, Isaac began to demonstrate his skill, winning Third Place at Vivo International Competition.
Currently, Isaac is a rising sophomore at Brown University. He attended Leonia High School, where he was a member of the orchestra. Isaac has won several competitions, most recently, First Prize in both the Manhattan International Music Competition Solo and Chamber. In his spare time, Isaac is an avid reader, snowboarder, amateur cook, and soccer player.
Joseph Yoon, Cellist
Joseph Yoon is a rising sophomore at NYU. He grew up in a household where his parents taught him to put his best into everything he does in order to output his best as well. He started doing cello alongside other activities such as swimming and track, both of which taught him to never give up. He picked up the cello quickly, playing alongside a diverse group of others in different ensembles and orchestras and performed at several nursing homes for the elderly who wanted to enjoy a small concert from the comfort of their homes. He also went to regional and all state orchestra to broaden his experiences and join a larger and more prestigious orchestra. While he did these things, he also remembers that hanging out with friends and studying is important too.
Sophia Woo, Pianist
Pianist Sophia Woo is an incoming freshman at Brown University. She started learning the piano in kindergarten, and picked it up again when she was in 4th grade. She now attends Manhattan School of Music, where she has continued her piano and music studies in a wide range of subjects, including music theory, composition, piano literature, and piano history. Sophia has also picked up other interests alongside piano: she loves to paint, draw and do graphic design, she plays on her school’s tennis varsity team, and she enjoys reading in her free time.
Minji Yi, Dancer
Minji Yi is currently a middle schooler at NEST+M in Manhattan. She has lived in New York for her whole life. Ever since she was three she has been dancing. Minji can dance different genres such as ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and a couple more. Before COVID, she and her competition team went to regional competitions and won multiple first place trophies. In her free time she likes to choreograph dances to her favorite songs. It helps her be creative and have fun. Not only does Minji like to dance but she likes watching movies, exercising, reading, taking debate classes, and making jewelry. She also enjoys hanging out with her family and friends.
